Five Years

You. I remember the first time I saw you. You talked to me and asked me a question. I answered. I didn't know it back then, but you would be the single thing I would chase for all five of my years in high school.

Grade 8: I'm sorry about everything that happened this year. I did things I regret and I said some things I'm not proud of. Just thank you for never snaking on me and for going through it all.

Grade 9: You were in my socials class this year, but I decided not to pursue anything with you because I felt it was still too close to grade 8 and there wouldn't be enough time to distance myself from what I was and what I wanted to show you who I was now. I just helped you occasionally, but I kept it at that.

Grade 10: I didn't have you in any of my classes this year, but I just helped you with any homework you had and things of that sort. I decided one thing was for sure this year. I was gonna improve myself and do many more extra things next year to make sure that you knew I wasn't that person you saw in grade 8. I put myself through hours in the summer just working on basketball, so that you'd know I was improving for you.

Grade 11: I did all those things. But nothing improved. I was in your chemistry class this year and I did things like basketball teams and student council. But nothing improved.

Grade 12: Same thing as last year except you were in my econ class as well. We worked together for grad committee but that was it.

Thank you for everything you gave to me. You motivated me when I was down, and you pushed me through challenges when I was unsure if I could do it myself. Thank you for the 10000 shots I shot, the 5000 metres I swam, and the tens of hundreds of times I ran in the gym. They were all for you. Thank you for teaching me an important lesson, that I need to treat other people right. and thank you for so much more.... You're an amazing person to me. Stay that way.
